Abstract

This study aims to analyze the development of fine motor skills in early childhood learners at TK PGRI 1 Blega, with a specific focus on activities involving writing, reading, and coloring. Fine motor skills are essential components of early childhood development, influencing a child’s academic readiness, coordination, and independence. This research employed a qualitative descriptive approach through direct observation of 24 kindergarten students in group A, focusing primarily on a four-year-old child as the main subject. The observations were conducted in a natural classroom setting, emphasizing daily learning activities that stimulate fine motor development, such as tracing letters, writing, and coloring. The findings revealed that the child’s fine motor abilities were still in the early stages of development. The subject exhibited difficulties in holding writing tools properly, limited letter recognition, and emotional resistance such as tantrums during coloring activities. These challenges indicated that the child’s hand–eye coordination and fine muscle strength were not yet optimally developed. However, engaging in structured fine motor activities—such as writing, tracing, and coloring—proved beneficial in enhancing coordination, control, and concentration. The analysis, grounded in nativist and psychoanalytic theories, suggests that the development of fine motor skills in early childhood is influenced not only by innate or biological factors but also by environmental stimulation, learning experiences, and emotional well-being. The study emphasizes that teachers and parents play a critical role in providing consistent guidance, support, and structured activities that nurture fine motor growth. Continuous stimulation through creative, play-based learning can significantly improve children’s fine motor performance and overall developmental outcomes
